When i took english conversation at last october 2011, the teacher gave me knowlegde about “several tenses that usually used to express something in conversation”. Here it is:

1. Simple present
2. Present continuous
3. Simple past
4. Simple future
5. Present perfect

Point number 1 until number 4 is essential, when number 5 is additional. The understanding of 5 tenses mentioned above is really important. Hope this information will help you.
